About Us
Learning with Taupō Tutoring
We tutor mostly primary and secondary aged students for:
- Early Reading
- Literacy
- Mathematics
Sometimes we work with slightly younger children and sometimes with adults.
We also offer ESOL (English as a second language) tuition from experienced tutors. (We don’t offer IELTS accreditation)
Students come for a range of reasons:
- a challenge to extend their learning
- support with classroom learning
- a confidence boost.
- more time to explore ideas.
The lessons and approaches are personalised, so all students are catered for whatever their reasons for attending.
Session Times and Costs
The Idea
Our qualified and experienced teachers work with groups of up to 4 students in 70 minute sessions at a range of times from Monday - Friday.
Sessions are usually 70 minutes long and cost $60.
Our session times usually start at 3:20pm and 4:50pm daily, however we do have some options before and after these times (2pm and 6pm).
Generally, we are able to accommodate family schedules and find a time and day which will work for everyone.
A free initial assessment and discussion with parents helps determine the direction of lessons. Ongoing lessons are shaped by student needs and engagement.
Dyslexia / Dyscalculia
Learning Challenges
We have a number of students who find reading, writing and maths particularly challenging.
We do not provide formal assessments for Dyslexia or Dyscalculia or other learning concerns. (REAP are the people to contact for that).
An free informal assessment and chat with parents helps to determine a student’s needs and strengths, and we develop a learning sequence for them from there.
With the appropriate content we ensure they have early success, which helps build confidence and encourages a can do attitude.
For most students it is about:
- targeting needs
- taking small steps forward
- not moving too fast
- being there to offer support
- …and definitely celebrating success.
